How real science is hijacked for fear and profit

The San Francisco Examiner has recently published an article by Dr. Robert Goldberg, vice president of the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest and author of the forthcoming book “Tabloid Medicine: How the Internet is Being Used to Hijack Medical Science For Fear and Profit”, on how anti-BPA hysteria and fear-mongering is stealing real scientific evidence. The article also sheds light on The Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) involvement in many of these scares.

It’s one of the best articles written lately on the issue of BPA safety, and how mainstream American media manipulates the coverage. Here is a quote from Mr. Goldberg:

“BPA makes plastic more heat-resistant and transparent, and less prone to shatter. It has made medical devices safer, reduced the incidence of food-borne diseases such as botulism, and cuts down the amount of energy needed to ship thousands of products. Yet these benefits are rarely discussed. Rather, we only know BPA for endocrine disruption.

Make sure to carve out some time to read it!
